Christmas is sneaking up on me right now. I’ve never been huge on knitting for Christmas gifts. I have to be honest and admit that I’m a selfish knitter. One too many times I’ve knit something and had that gift unappreciated. I occasionally knit for gifts, but I usually wait for inspiration to strike, for that moment when I see something and think “Oh! That would be perfect for X!”
This year I have to muster up the energy to get knitting though, we have three boys and they all LOVE hand knit things. It can be hard, as we have a blended family, so often our kids go to their other homes with their lovingly hand knit items, and we never see the garments again. I don’t have it in me to tell them not to take their mitts/hats/etc with them, they really love them and want to wear them all the time.
Luckily the eldest told me yesterday that he LOVES fingerless mitts, they’re the best because you can wear them and keep your hands warm but you can still write and stuff. I could’ve danced with joy!!! Fingerless mitts are quick and easy. AND the kids have teeny tiny little kidlet hands. AND I always knit them the same garment in different colours. I’ve suddenly gone from slogging along to being excited about my Christmas knitting! Not only that, if some of the mitts go missing, it’ll be quick to whip up a replacement pair. I’m going to knit them with Ancient Arts Big Squeeze.
If you’re looking for quick awesome knits from Ancient Arts, I recommend the Big EasyPattern by Barb Brown and our Big Squeeze yarn. The yarn is super soft and skooshy. Big Easy comes with three patterns: Hat, Mitt, and Cowl!
There are some great items showing up in our Holiday KAL Support Group. I’m happy I’ll finally have something to contribute! Go check it out, it’s a super awesome concept. Anyone who has done knitting for the Holidays has felt the crunch. Our group is no pressure, and because we understand that things don’t always go as planned it goes until January 31st, because I know that I’m not the only person who has had to wrap up a single sock and half a ball of yarn. Plus there are prizes, share a project and you are entered to win!
