Call for Designer Submissions - Lascaux 2025

Ancient Arts Yarns is seeking Knitwear design proposals for an upcoming 9 pattern collection featuring all weights of our Lascaux yarn line, to be published in the Spring of 2025.

We’re looking for romance, flowers, travel, daydreaming and hope; all things to inspire knit pieces that can be worn well into autumn. Explore vintage details that delight, whether subtle or showy! V-necks and/or shawl collars are on the wish list. Think time-travelling librarian in a romance novel, and you won’t be far off!

See the moodboard here: https://pin.it/7tiJfYWUY

Elements that we’re hoping to see include: texture, geometric graphics, floral and fruit graphics, embroidery (can use Lascaux Fine or Socknado Minis), simple stripes, marling (can combine two colours of Lascaux Fine, or combine AAY Delicacy with any of the Lascaux line). Crochet elements combined with knit projects are very welcome, as are projects that use more than one weight of Lascaux in the same project. Project types should include: shawls in varying sizes and shapes, wraps, pullovers, vests, cardigans and long cardigans, mittens, and gloves.

About the yarn:

Lascaux (https://ancientartsfibre.com/pages/lascaux-oasis-colour-gallery) is a perfect combination of Old World and New World wools, incorporating the bounce, spring, and cushiness of Manx Loaghtan Wool (an ancient and rare sheep breed from the Isle of Man) and the drape and lustre of Punta Arenas Wool (a modern sheep breed from Chile related to Corriedale).

Submission Requirements

Submissions should not be under submission elsewhere nor previously published, and should include the following:

-Your name, contact information, and where your work can be found (for instance, a link to your designer page on Ravelry).

-A proposal indicating the details of construction, features, patterns, sizing, and other highlights of your idea.

-An image of a good-sized swatch (which needn’t be in the requested yarn, but that reasonably suggests the proposed item).

-Information on stitch and row/round gauge for your proposed project, requested colour(s) and quantity of yarn that would be needed for the project.

-A sketch to show us your idea as it would be worn, and, for garments, please include a schematic to demonstrate the proposed proportions and sizes.

Please send your submission in pdf format using the form at the bottom of this page (preferred option) or via email to Jessie McKitrick at submissions@ancientartsfibre.com by the end of July 21st 2024, Mountain Time. Please include the word "Lascaux" in your document title and in your email subject line.  Replies regarding accepted proposals will be sent by mid-August. Final patterns and samples will be due December 9th 2024. International submissions welcome.

Compensation/Support:  Rates range from $150 CAD to $700 CAD depending on the complexity of the design and pattern. If you are looking for more precise rates for a specific idea you have in mind, please feel free to email for more details. Since we are designers ourselves, we completely understand the challenges of such work and want to be as fair as possible. Please note that while these rates are listed in CAD, we can convert to other currencies as the designer requests. Exchange on non-Canadian dollar payments will be calculated on the day of payment. We pay promptly upon receipt of the pattern and knitted sample. Ancient Arts Yarns will provide the yarn for the sample, accommodating colour preferences whenever possible.

Ancient Arts Yarns holds an exclusivity period of one year, followed by shared rights with you, the designer. Following the exclusivity period, our tech edited pattern and photos are available for your use upon request. We retain the knitted sample for promotional use and ensure your name is always prominently displayed on patterns and in promotional materials.
