CYO Caroline: Happy New Yarn!

One of the best parts of working with yarn is that there is always something new to look forward to. New types of yarn, new colours, new patterns… yarn is ever changing and evolving and that means it stays fresh and exciting! With that in mind it seems only reasonable to make our first blog post of the year a post about what is going to be new for us in 2017. We have a lot of fun things to look forward to, so let me share some of them with you.

Let’s start with new yarn. New yarn is ALWAYS fun, and we do our best to find not only the best yarn out there, but yarn that is exciting too! We’ve had a lot of fun interviewing the best of the best so we can keep our lineup fresh. With that in mind let me give you a teaser of two new yarns that are about to arrive in the studio. Fibre blends are trending and there is good reason for this. Mixing fibres allows us to take advantage of all sorts of properties that a single fibre alone just cannot offer. Both our new yarns are blends that have a lot to offer. We will give you a sneak peek at one and hide the other for later this month.

The first yarn I want to tell you about is a stunning mix of 68% Extra Fine Merino/ 32% Nettle in a DK weight yarn. Nettle is a plant based fibre much like linen. It is a bast fibre extracted from the plant, and not a man-made rayon like most bamboo fibre we see in yarn. It adds the same sorts of benefits to a yarn as does linen, but is silkier and has a beautiful natural silver sheen. This eco-friendly yarn is made from renewable resources and is warm in winter and cool in summer thanks to the addition of the nettle! It’s super soft and has a stunning handle. And the colours! Oh the colours…

The second yarn is a sooper secret blend of 44% Extra Fine wool/17% Super Kid Mohair/13% Angora/26% Nylon and is a boucle! Texture is in, and this yarn will be just fantastic; it’s amazingly soft thanks to the extra fine, premium quality fibres used in its construction, and it has that funky texture in just the right amount that can make an ordinary garment extraordinary! This yarn dyes in amazing shades too, and we will have more on it as it comes in.

The next exciting new thing for this year is patterns! We are continuing to expand our pattern support and are very excited about the next wave of patterns that we will be releasing. It includes a lovely collection of sweaters, in a variety of yarn types including DK and bulky, and has something for everyone! Cardigans, pullovers, a stunning long vest and a gorgeous poncho are all in here. The collection also includes all of your favorite types of knitting including lace and cables, simple and more complex, and also includes popular new techniques like mosaic stitch. We have new shawls and socks coming too. One of the most exciting parts is a secret – we are hard at work on our first book!

New colours. We have just released a lovely new palette of new colours, but good news! There are even more coming your way! Some are going to be exclusive to your local yarn stores and yarn clubs. Those are always so much fun as we get to play with themes and think outside the box. Check out stores like River City and Paradise Fibers for some of our custom colours. Speckles are so hot right now, and don’t show any signs of slowing down, so there will be more of these beauties coming your way.

And of course what better place to find new colours than in our new yarn subscriptions! Our first subscription, the Super Amazing Fingering Yarn Club was a great success so we have to do it again.
