Call for Designer Submissions - Herlig DK Collection Fall 2023

Call issued January 12, 2023 - submissions due February 10, 2023

Ancient Arts Yarns is seeking Knitwear design proposals for an upcoming 7 pattern collection featuring our newest yarn, Herlig DK, to be published in the Fall of 2023.

We’re landlocked here at Ancient Arts, but that’s no limit to our imaginations, and our new Herlig DK yarn, made with Viking Norway wool has found us daydreaming about the North Sea. Send us your submissions for knit garments, shawls, and accessories that would keep a Viking, fisherman, or sea-side tourist cozy and warm during a brisk day on or near the North Sea! We would love to see classic knits that will stand the test of time, but we’re also excited to see new and adventurous creations that knitters will be eager to explore with their knitting needles!

Mood Board for Herlig DK Collection Fall 2023

About the yarn:

Herlig DK is a non-superwash yarn made from 50% Viking Norway wool, 50% cruelty-free Merino and brings the best of both wools to the yarn. Herlig means “lovely” in Norwegian and we have named this yarn as we did because that describes it so well! This yarn has been designed by us to be the perfect all-purpose yarn, ideal for sweaters, shawls, and small accessories; its three ply structure partnered with just the right amount of twist gives it excellent stitch definition, making it as good for colourwork as it is for texture, cables, and all forms of slip stitch, colour work, and brioche.

Viking Norway wool comes from the Norwegian sheep that has been grown since Viking times, and was bred to be warm and strong, but very comfortable at the same time. Famous for it’s lustre, beauty, durability, and excellent loft that adds warmth, it also has superb body to help garments hold their shape.

Herlig DK was made to match our Lascaux DK yarn so that they can be used interchangeably, or together in the same project. For this call, please feel free to take advantage of the increased palette range that results when you combine Lascaux DK’s subtly muted and heathered palette with Herlig DK’s vivid palette!

  • Your name, contact information, and where your work can be found (for instance, a link to your designer page on Ravelry).
  • A proposal indicating the details of construction, features, patterns, sizing, and other highlights of your idea.
  • An image of a good-sized swatch (which needn’t be in the requested yarn, but that reasonably suggests the proposed item).
  • Information on stitch and row/round gauge for your proposed project, requested colour(s) and quantity of yarn that would be needed for the project.
  • A sketch to show us your idea as it would be worn, and, for garments, please include a schematic to demonstrate the proposed proportions and sizes.

PDF name in the following format: Herlig_PatternName_YourName.  by the end of February 10th 2023, Mountain Standard Time. Replies regarding accepted proposals will be sent by late February.
