Instructor: Barbara van Vierssen Trip
Is pain getting in the way of how much you're knitting or crocheting? Do your hands, wrists, shoulders or back ache because of working with fibre or other hand-intensive arts and crafts?
Join Registered Massage Therapist Barbara van Vierssen Trip for an informative class about how the body works as we craft, some of the most common causes of pain for crafters and artists, and adjustments we can make to where and how we craft to help reduce pain and keep our hands busy. Bring along a notebook and your questions, and be ready to try out some stretches!
In this course, you'll learn about:
- how muscles, tendons, fascia and bones work together,
- great stretches and strengthening exercises to keep you knitting and crocheting longer.
- tools and tricks to help your body position and hand position for less pain when crafting.
- how and where you can massage yourself to reduce pain, and red flags to look out for that might tell you something is a more serious issue.

About the Teacher:
Barbara (Babs) van Vierssen Trip became an RMT (Registered Massage Therapist) after a head injury made it a little harder for her to work in front of a computer all day. She enjoys helping clients in pain figure out precisely which muscles and structures are relating to their issues, and working on them together to help her clients get back to living life the way they want to, without the pain part. Before massage therapy, Babs worked a bunch of fun jobs supporting social innovation, teaching people of all ages about nature and history, and completed degrees in both archaeology and museum studies with a focus on inspiring personal connections to the world around us using our sense of smell as we learn about the past and the present. She believes every human being has a right to live a life that makes them happy and feel like they belong as part of our connected world.
