With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, we’d like to share some of our favourite yarn, colours and patterns inspired by the day of love, all of which are certainly Cupid-approved!
First, let’s talk colour. Reds and pinks are what most of us think about for Valentine’s day: for a traditional approach, Fire in the Belly, Kitten Nose Pink and Cherry Custard are a good start (top row, L-R). French Bordeaux, Goth Chick and Syrah by Moonlight are excellent options for a more understated palette (middle row, L-R). Or, you could think outside the box a bit with some less traditional colour choices such as Kitsch, Sweet Sensation, and Flamboyant (bottom row, L-R).
Fans of the Pantone Colour of the Year will love one of our new colourways for 2016, Art Deco:
Honestly, we could come up with dozens more colour ideas from our current palette, but we should probably shift our focus to what to knit and crochet! We’re quite excited about The Big Easy: Hat, Cowl and Mittens which uses our Big Squeeze Yarn. This fast-knitting pattern set made its debut at the TNNA Trade Show last month and is now available here on our website – yes, you really do get all three patterns in one!
There’s still time to whip up a Stellar Hat (below, left) in Big Squeeze Bulky for a loved one; quick knitters may even be able to complete a pair of Heart Motif Mittens (below, right) in our new & improved Merino DK!
Knitters looking for an even quicker gift idea should consider an adorable mug cozy such as this free pattern for Valentine Coffee Cozies (below, left) or these knit Heart Ornaments (below, right), both of which are available on Ravelry.
Crocheters have no shortage of free patterns to choose from on Ravelry; we spied this adorable free pattern to make a Granny Heart (below, left) using DK weight yarn – wouldn’t it make a festive garland? The Valentine’s Day Gift Bag (below, right) is another free pattern using DK weight yarn – perfect for Valentine’s treats and sweets!
We’d like to wish our friends and fans a wonderful Valentine’s Day this Sunday, February 14 – and for our Canadian fans, an equally wonderful Family Day on February 15!
