Colour of the Month Theme for 2026 - Children's Literature
September 2026 - I Spy
Our September colourway is inspired by the I Spy series of children's books! The I Spy series was first published in the 1990s, with text by Jean Marzollo and photographs by Walter Wick, and is produced by Scholastic Press. Each book in the series contains vibrant, themed photographs accompanied by rhyming riddles that prompt readers to locate specific objects within the images. The series has sold over 75 million copies worldwide and continues to engage children and families with its interactive search-and-find format, and have even been transformed into computer games! The books cover a wide range of subject matter ranging from holidays to places (e.g. a fun house) to animals and more! There is a book for nearly every interest one can imagine and then some!
I Spy books are designed for children in kindergarten through third grade, but they are enjoyable for all ages, and indeed I well recall the fun I had in searching out new I Spy books for my niece and in reading (and playing) with them with her! They help develop children (and adults) to develop observation skills, pattern recognition, vocabulary, problem-solving, and persistence. The books also introduce children to concepts like numbers, letters, animals, and holidays in a fun and engaging way, and one can go back to them over and over and still see something new every time.
Our suggested pairings for September include Irish Linen, Sorbet, Spanish Lavender, and Sea Glass.
