By Caroline Sommerfeld
The asymmetric triangle shawl is a tribute to the magnificent Burr Oak tree planted by the designer. Surprisingly straightforward in construction, this shawl behaves as if knit on the bias, making it comfortable to wear and enjoyable to knit. The Oak Leaf and Acorn shawl pulls together a variety of knit elements including garter, mosaic and lace all representing parts of the oak tree harmoniously, much as Caroline's tree does for her yard. The tree is a haven for wildlife, attracting rare birds, rabbits, ermine, and squirrels year round to feed, shelter, and have a chat with each other; much as this large shawl also offers shelter to the wearer and attracts knitters to chat and knit along together!
