Colour of the Month 2023 - INTERESTING ARCHEOLOGICAL SITES

November 2023 - Ishtar Gate

Our November Colour of the Month is drawn from Ancient Mesopotamia, and the city of Babylon. The Ishtar Gate is a magnificent architectural wonder and it holds a significant place in the annals of art, history, and culture. This iconic structure was constructed in ancient Babylon (modern-day Iraq) during the reign of King Nebuchadnezzar II around 575 BC.

The ruins of Babylon and the Ishtar Gate were excavated by a team of German archeologists led by Robert Koldewey, from 1902 to 1914. The project was funded by the German Oriental Society, and to justify the cost, most of the excavated material was taken back to Germany.

The rebuilding of Babylon's Ishtar Gate and Processional Way in Berlin was one of the most complex architectural reconstructions in the history of archaeology. Although the Ishtar Gate was a double gate, only the smaller front gate was re-assembled in the Pergamon Museum. The larger, inner gate was too large for a museum and has remained in storage ever since. Parts of the gate that were not used in the reconstruction and many of the bas-relief animals have made their way to other museums around the world.

Working with Hand Dyed Yarn: While we strive for consistency, due to the hand dye process variations may exist between (and with some colourways within) dye lots. Therefore it is important to order sufficient yarn for your project, and if a uniform result is preferred we suggest alternating skeins. We hope that you will value and appreciate the beautiful and unique creations of the hand dye process and are always happy to assist you in working with hand dyed yarns!

We offer a 60-day return and exchange policy from the date of shipment. To be eligible for a return or exchange yarn must be in original condition with label intact and be scent and smoke-free. Please note that shipping fees are non-refundable. Refunds will be issued to the original payment method used for the purchase.
